Acupuncture involves stimulating anatomic points in the body for therapeutic purposes. These points are most often stimulated by using a fine needle, heat, pressure, friction, suction, or impulses of electromagnetic energy to stimulate to points. Basic scientific research suggests that neurological pathways are the mechanism by which acupuncture relieves pain, practitioners call these pathways meridians or channels. The advantages of acupuncture are that it is effective, non-addictive, and there are virtually no side effects. Acupuncture can also be used in situations where Western medicine has its limitations. Perhaps the most well known use of acupuncture is for the relief of pain, but the World Health Organization has listed more than 104 conditions for which acupuncture is indicated and many patients find improvement in areas not listed.

This therapy is deeply relaxing, safe, and effective; CST can improve or alleviate numerous conditions including migraines, chronic fatigue, emotional trauma, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, motor coordination impairments, orthopedic problems, stress, and tension.

    Your First Visit

What to expect on your first visit at Beneficial Bodywork Massage and Muscle Therapy
If this is your first massage you may be curious about what to expect before, during, and after a typical massage. Before your massage it is probably best to not eat a large meal. Some people like to take a warm shower or bath to assist them with feeling comfortable and relaxed.
When you arrive for your appointment you will be greeted and given a health intake form to fill in. This will provide your therapist with some valuable information pertaining to your current and past health. Upon completing the form your therapist will show you into the massage treatment room and then do a verbal intake. During this time the two of you will discuss what your needs and goals for the session are and she can answer any questions you may have
After this intake is finished, your therapist will exit the room and you will prepare to get on the massage table. Before getting on the table, you may disrobe as much or as little as you prefer. Many styles of massage therapy are most effective when performed directly on the skin. Once on the table and in between the soft sheets you can relax and enjoy the peacefulness.
Your therapist will give you some time to get situated. She will then knock and enter back into the room and make sure that you feel comfortable; adjusting anything to your liking such as the lighting or music.
As the massage begins, it is your time to simply relax and gently breathe. A full body massage typically includes the back, buttocks, legs, feet, arms, hands, head, neck and face. When each area is worked on the sheet is pulled back and then respectfully replaced. If there are areas of your body that you are not comfortable with having massaged, for any reason, mention this to the Therapist. You do not need to explain or rationalize your reasons.
Eventually the massage will have to end and your therapist will again leave the room. After getting up off the table, take a moment to reflect on how you might feel different from when you arrived. If you noticed changes discuss them with your therapist.
We thank you for the honor to work with you and look forward to massage becoming a regular part of your good health routine.

What to do after your massage

Take it easy, it's best to have a lazy day or evening. Allow yourself to enjoy the benefits of your massage.
Soak, either a hot bath with Epsom or sea salts, or a Jacuzzi for 20 - 30 minutes. (Unless contraindicated due to a medical condition). This helps to extend the benefits of your massage and prevent soreness the day after deep work.
Drink lots of water, water hydrates your body and flushes out more toxins.
Communicate, if for any reason you are not happy with your massage, or have questions, call Donna at 336 · 712 · 8010. If the machine picks up please leave a message, as I am often in with clients. I will call you back.
